Amplitube Live Review

(More customer reviews)To my ears, the software is quite good. It does take the raw signal from an electric guitar and process it in such a way that it sounds like it is coming out of a selection of real amplifiers. This way you get some classic sounds without having to go out and buy a half dozen amplifiers--and you don't have to lug them around! The software also includes noise gate, reverb, delay, distortion pedal, etc.
To correct a few erroneous comments in other reviews . . .
Even if you have a fast computer, you can still have unacceptable delays between when you strum your guitar and when the processed sound comes out of your computer. This is not Amplitube's fault. You also need a high quality sound card and low latency drivers such as ASIO or WDM, and you need to know how to optimize the latency settings. If you are using a laptop with a generic sound card and MME drivers, your delay will be long regardless how good your computer is.
You can use Amplitube LE for recording, but you will need a host software such as Cakewalk, or Cubase. You can't record if Amplitube is all you have, and I don't think they made that claim.
As I said, Amplitube sounds pretty good and realistic to my ears, but of course, that is a matter of taste.

M-Audio JamLab Personal Guitar System Review

(More customer reviews)It's a great practice tool, but you can't really record a song with it. It does allow you to record what you are playing, but you can't record with a background (drum loop, bass, etc.) unless you purchase the GT Player 2.5 software that'll set you back another 115 bones. You buy this and you'll get a stripped down version that's merely fun to practice with and record an idea or play along with a song. Eh, it's neat and the recordings are fantastic quality, but I wish someone would've told me this before I went out and bought it. It would've made the difference I guess. The other draw back is that it doesn't use your existing audio hardware and when you install this device it becomes your new "sound card" unless you do some fiddling around and if you have speakers then you'll have to run them through this device. I haven't returned it because I'm having enough fun with it as it stands. Also you MUST have Windows XP (MUST HAVE). I found that out the hard way, but luckily I have XP on my laptop (but I tried installing it on my desktop's Win2K and it was difficult to get it off). Those are the pro's and some of the con's, but...eh, it's alright, just a scam to lure you into spending more money on the full blown version.

Dunlop The Original Crybaby Pedal Review

There are a lot of wah pedals with a wider range out there but if you are looking for the traditional wah sound, this is the way to go. No other company has sucessfully replicated THIS sound. Other wahs are cool because of additional features and for their own affect (yes that is the spelling I intended). I gave this a 4 for the lack of features. If you buy this, a try adjusting the pot (read the instructions). Most people do not know about this feature but you can really change the voicing of this wah wah.

MXR Kerry King 10 Band EQ w/ Boost Pedal Review

(More customer reviews)I'll keep this short and to the point. I am a metal player, and a Slayer fan at heart - this pedal is a must have for that reason alone. I also play in cover bands, and I NEED to be able to alter my tone, rather the aggressiveness of it, willingly; this pedal is a must have for that too. I also play two Marshall JCM800 2203 stacks - this pedal can run both heads without an expensive input buffering unit... because it is one of those too!
I use this between the guitar and head, shaping the sound of my guitar; other guys put it in the effects loop, but I think there are better tools for that than this pedal (but those guys all love how it works too, so don't discount that as an option). Kerry King uses very aggressive tone shapes, a "middle finger" he calls it, with the peak at 1k hz. I peak the tone around the same point, but not quite as severely - my touch is more subtle, but it still goes from Slayer-style guitar brutality to a more reserved touch with just a tap of the switch. I like that control!
I also experiment with the fact you can adjust the gain and volume boost of this pedal. For years, OD pedals in front of distorted amps was the way to get that horrible buzzy distortion that made death metal sound the way it did, but excellent distortion comes from clean boost - this has it. AND you can still tailor the tone with 10 sliders instead of rotating a single knob one way or the other for "less treble".
In all, this is the most useful pedal in my arsenal. I DO NOT gig without it. And by the way it is built, I trust it to run for decades without a problem.

Jim Dunlop ROCK-MA Rockman Metal Ace Review

(More customer reviews)I bought the X100 wayyy back in the early 90's, and it was way ahead of it's time. Built in chorus, reverb, it sounded excellent. For some reason, it no longer works, and given my loyalty to SR&D Rockman product line, I didn't want to try anything else, I wanted to buy another Rockman headphone amp. So I opted for this one. Today, Dunlop owns SR&D. The Dunlop website doesn't show you much, and it's not clear on what the difference is between the different Rockman Ace products. What's worse is that it doesn't show you the controls on top. Because of my loyalty, I bought it anyway.
Here's what you get. A stripped down version of the X100, a clean sound, and 2 types of distortion, one heavier than the other. The cleaner distortion, takes a second to build up to a heavier sound, it's hard to describe. It starts out like a light distortion, then gets heavier. Not sure why Dunlop would release a product that does this.
I have the classic Rockman rack effects when it was under SR&D, before Dunlop bought the product line. Those products are worth every penny, and I haven't found anything that comes close to sound you get from those effects. I don't know why Dunlop has killed the product line, and offering a watered down version of the best headphone amp ever, the X100, not to mention they discontinued all the rack effects.
The price you pay here on Amazon, is worth it. I wouldn't pay full price for this unit. It's ok, it's not great, or the wow I get from the X100, and maybe there's something else that's better, and worth paying more money for and would have added effects.

Fender 2 Vintage Tweed Strap Review

Here's my formula for getting a four star review.
Start at three stars.
-1 star for the color being off, not as pictured.
The light color in the tweed is BRIGHT yellow.
The leather ends are almost orange.
I put this on my Candy Apple Fender Stratocaster and feel like I should be playing lead for Ronald & The McDonaldland Band.
+1 star for being long enough. I'm 6'2", 250lbs, most econo-straps end up being way too short for me. No problem here.
+1 star value for the money. The Fender tweed straps are tough and last forever (this isn't my first) and usually look very classy. A good choice for the budget minded guitarist.

MXR 6 Band Graphic EQ Pedal Review

(More customer reviews)Great deal. Instead of buying a new amp with more high end, I bought this $60 pedal instead. It has allowed me to use ALL my guitars instead of just those that give me a higher end. You can sculpt your sound radically, or very subtly. I Put the EQ after my other pedals & before the amp. The pedal is more responsive that way. you can also use it as a boost (eq levels above zero). I notched up the high end so when I hit the button I get a nice sparkle for solos. My clean channel on my amp did not have enough treble. It is a great amp with this one deficiency. That problem has been solved with this pedal. It's not glamorous, but it's the best pedal investment I've ever made. The pedal is small, rugged, & the lighted faders are cool. Cheers!
