I downloaded the FREE trial of this software from Sony Creative Software and mucked around with it for a whole month, to see if it would do the things I wanted. I am using Acid Music Studio 8.0 to create sound effects and soundtracks for my YouTube videos and my multi-media video artwork.
This program would suit the home musician or the musician just starting out with a limited budget who would like a professional program to record and mix their music.I warn anyone who is creative, that this software is Highly Addictive. You can spend many, many hours exploring all the inbuilt synthesizer preset programs and tweek them with an infinity of different settings contained within the Fx Effects chains.
You can also use the 3.5 Gigabytes of loops and samples that come with the "purchased copy" (not available with trial), to construct your own music in just a few clicks.
Please note something once you have downloaded the "loops & samples":
In the explorer view tab of Acid Music Studio, make sure you click the View button and tick all options - especially tick "Show All Files", otherwise you may freak out and think that you can't access the loops and samples.
This is a MIDI file based program, actually a very large part of the program. So if you want to make the most of using Acid Music Studio 8.0, then get a MIDI to USB connection so that you can connect a Synthesizer Keyboard to your computer. If you do this, you gain amazing control of the program and can control the inbuilt synth on your computer.
You will have to be patient in learning how to set things up, if working with connected instruments. There are a lot of little settings that have to be set just right for the sound & MIDI files to communicate in both directions. There is a fairly good Help file which will teach you how to do things, but as they say: Rome wasn't built in one day!
This product really seems to have hit the mark this time with Version 8.0
I use it with Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum HD 10 production suite and it works just fine.
I'm not a musician, just a novice.
Whether you are a novice or a musician, I'm sure you will love this program.
Ridiculous value for money - honestly.

Apple iLife '04 Review

(More customer reviews)I won't even talk about the other iLife apps. Good though they are, the real story of iLife '04 is Garage Band. It is a powerful, easy-to-use non-linear audio editor. Now, it won't be all things to all people. It is primarily designed as a loop-based music creation system. However, you can add non-software instruments (including vocals) as well, filtering them through various effects, including several adjustable guitar amp modelers. The results--for the price--are absolutely astounding.
This program is to music creation what PageMaker was to desktop publishing, lo those many years ago. Unfortunately, that means that everyone with a Mac will now become a 'composer,' but that sort of power-to-the-people freedom is great, in my opinion.
Important note: if you buy it, make sure you immediately install the Garage Band update (version 1.0.1?), which is available at the Apple site. It clears up several issues in the initial release.
One other important note: This program is a total resource hog! You need a fast G4 or G5 processor and at least 512MB of RAM. It also helps if you have a faster hard drive.
(By the way, to the other reviewer who couldn't rename tracks: sure you can. Simply click on the instrument in question, click the "I" button and choose "save instrument." This allows you to rename the track. You can even rename regions within a track. Click on the region and rename it in the name window in the lower left-hand corner of the main window.)

Triple Platinum Apple Loops for Garageband Logic Or Logic Express Review

(More customer reviews)Lots of samples that some customers may find very useful. But if you were expecting live instrument loops (acoustic or electric guitar, piano, bass, etc.) you may be disappointed. This is mostly synthesized tracks, primarily targeting the hip-hop/rave crowd. That said, I found some live percussion and drum loops that I'll probably use.
