Perfect for leads or other applications where a gain boost is necessary, for example when you use two different guitars and the output for one is higher than the other and you don't want to waste time fiddling with all your settings just to equalize them (especially during a show!). I use it exclusively for a volume boost for leads. This is an excellent gain boost pedal, probably the best of its type, but the newer MXR pedals are made with plastic switches painted to look like metal switches. I think MXR did this to save money, but after a few months of gigging/rehearsals, I eventually broke the switch. The footswitch is the most used part of the pedal, it's disappointing that they chose to skimp on the quality. Even if they charged a bit extra, it would have been worth it just to get an authentic metal switch. Other than that, the pedal is excellent and simple to use. Just dial in how much signal boost you want. I'll have to buy another one, unless someone can recommend a similar product.
